Burnout & Work Stress Therapy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Maybe work follows you home, even when your laptop is closed. You’re exhausted but find it hard to rest. Small requests feel overwhelming, or you’ve begun to feel detached from work that once mattered to you. You may be wondering whether something needs to change at your job, in your life, or in the expectations you place on yourself.

At Transcendent Self Therapy, we help you understand what’s contributing to your stress and find a way forward that takes both your well-being and your real circumstances seriously.

Signs you might need support

  • Feeling depleted, irritable, or emotionally distant after work

  • Dreading the workday or struggling to recover on weekends

  • Having trouble concentrating, making decisions, or finding motivation

  • Feeling guilty when you rest or set a boundary

  • Taking on more than you can reasonably manage

  • Questioning your career direction, identity, or sense of purpose

  • Noticing that work stress is affecting your sleep, relationships, or health

You don’t have to wait until you’re unable to work to ask for help.

What treatment looks like

  1. Understand what’s happening
We’ll explore your current demands, sources of stress, and what burnout feels like for you. We’ll also consider the role of your workplace, relationships, history, and life outside work.

  2. Make room for recovery
Together, we’ll look at what helps you feel less depleted, where support is available, and which changes may be possible now. This may include working with anxiety, self-criticism, or the difficulty of slowing down.

  3. Explore patterns and choices
You may want to understand why it’s hard to say no, why your worth feels tied to achievement, or why certain work dynamics feel so familiar. Therapy can help you examine these patterns while you consider practical choices about boundaries, workload, or career direction.

  4. Build a more sustainable way forward
We’ll keep paying attention to what changes, what remains difficult, and what you want your relationship with work to be. The goal is a life with more room for your needs, relationships, and interests.

Scope & support

Burnout does not always begin with the individual. Heavy workloads, financial pressure, discrimination, and unsupportive workplaces can all play a part. Therapy can help you respond to those conditions, clarify your choices, and care for yourself through change, but it cannot make an unhealthy workplace healthy on its own.

If you’re experiencing severe symptoms or need time away from work, your therapist can discuss what additional support may be appropriate. We offer outpatient psychotherapy, in person in Williamsburg and virtually throughout New York State.
