Intensive Treatment Sessions
At our practice, we understand that healing does not always fit neatly into a 45- or 60-minute appointment. For some people, the traditional therapy model feels too brief, too contained, or not enough to fully explore the complexity of what they’re experiencing. That’s why we offer Intensive Treatment Sessions—extended, highly focused sessions designed to create space for deeper work and meaningful breakthroughs.
What Are Intensive Treatment Sessions?
Intensive sessions are longer-format therapy appointments, ranging from 90 minutes to 4 hours, tailored to the unique needs of each client. While they can be structured solely as extended talk therapy sessions, they also allow for integration of other modalities when clinically appropriate and with the client’s consent. Depending on your goals and preferences, an intensive may incorporate:
Movement-based practices to connect body and mind.
Nature therapy sessions conducted outdoors, offering the healing benefits of natural environments.
Art-making and creative expression, which provide powerful avenues for processing emotions and accessing new perspectives.
Exposure therapy or in-vivo work outside the therapy office, helping you confront real-world challenges in a safe, supported way.
This flexible format allows therapy to expand beyond the limits of a traditional session, giving clients the time and space to immerse themselves more fully in the therapeutic process.
The Purpose of Intensives
The goal of intensive sessions is to accelerate growth and healing by creating an immersive experience. With more time, you can move past surface-level conversation and into the heart of the issues that matter most. Extended sessions can help you:
Gain clarity on longstanding challenges.
Break through stuck patterns or emotional blocks.
Process and integrate difficult or traumatic experiences.
Develop and practice new coping strategies in real time.
Engage more fully with creative or embodied approaches that require space to unfold.
Rather than feeling rushed, intensives allow for pacing that matches the natural rhythm of your process—whether that means slowing down to explore something deeply, or creating enough time to practice and integrate new skills.
Who May Benefit
Intensive treatment sessions can be valuable for a wide range of clients, including:
Individuals feeling “stuck” in their current therapy and wanting to deepen their progress.
Clients navigating acute stressors, transitions, or crises who need more immediate support.
People exploring trauma or grief, where more time is necessary for safe processing and grounding.
Clients interested in experiential approaches—such as movement, art, or nature therapy—that benefit from extended timeframes.
Those who cannot commit to weekly therapy but want meaningful, concentrated sessions to support their growth.
Intensives can be scheduled as a standalone service, as part of ongoing therapy, or as an occasional addition to regular weekly sessions.
A Flexible, Client-Centered Approach
Every intensive session is tailored to your needs and conducted with your full consent. Some may take place in the therapy office, while others may be held outdoors or in community spaces, depending on the goals of the work. What remains consistent is the supportive, collaborative environment that allows you to go deeper, explore more fully, and leave with insights and strategies that continue to unfold long after the session ends.
