Meet Christy Walshe, LMSW: Therapy for Deeper Connection, Self-Trust, and Meaningful Change

We are delighted to welcome Christy Walshe, LMSW, to the clinical team at Transcendent Self Therapy. Christy is now accepting new clients for couples therapy, individual therapy, and psychedelic preparation and integration, both in person in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and virtually throughout New York.

Christy works with introspective and curious adults who want to look beneath the surface of their experiences. Her clients may be navigating relationship difficulties, attachment patterns, anxiety, depression, life transitions, questions of identity or purpose, spiritual growth, or the end of life.

Her style is compassionate, emotionally attuned, and direct. Rather than approaching people as collections of symptoms to eliminate, Christy encourages clients to become curious about the beliefs, protective responses, and relationship patterns that have shaped them.

Therapy becomes a process of returning to a more authentic relationship with oneself and the world.

Couples Therapy for Greater Honesty and Connection

Intimate relationships can bring forward our deepest needs, fears, and protective strategies. A partner may become the person with whom we most want to feel safe, and the person around whom our oldest vulnerabilities become most activated.

Christy is especially interested in couples therapy and is completing advanced two-year family and couples therapy training at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. Her work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy and Relational Life Therapy.

She helps couples recognize the underlying pattern beneath their arguments. What appears to be a conflict about chores, sex, parenting, or time together may also contain deeper questions: Do I matter to you? Can I depend on you? Will my needs overwhelm you? Is it safe to be fully honest?

Christy may be a strong fit for couples experiencing:

  • Recurring conflict or communication breakdowns

  • Emotional distance or diminished intimacy

  • Attachment-related anxiety or withdrawal

  • Difficulty expressing vulnerable needs

  • Problems with boundaries, trust, or resentment

  • Major life transitions affecting the relationship

  • A desire for greater honesty and emotional connection

Her goal is not simply to teach couples how to argue more efficiently. She helps partners understand the vulnerable emotions beneath their protective reactions and develop a relationship with greater openness, accountability, and connection.

Moving Beyond Insight and Into Felt Experience

Many people can explain their patterns intellectually while still feeling unable to change them. They know why they struggle with boundaries, why they choose unavailable partners, or why uncertainty produces anxiety—but that knowledge alone has not transformed the experience.

Christy’s work invites clients to move beyond purely intellectual analysis and develop greater awareness of what is happening emotionally and physically in the present moment.

Her approach is informed by more than a decade of engagement with meditation, yoga, breathwork, and contemplative practices. These traditions influence her understanding of presence, self-inquiry, and psychological growth.

This does not mean that therapy requires a spiritual or meditation practice. Rather, Christy helps clients notice their internal experience with greater clarity and build the capacity to remain present with emotions that may previously have felt overwhelming, threatening, or inaccessible.

Boundaries, Self-Worth, and Attachment Patterns

Problems with boundaries are rarely resolved by simply learning to say no. A boundary may activate fears of disappointing others, being abandoned, appearing selfish, or losing an important relationship.

Similarly, low self-worth is often sustained by deeply rooted beliefs about what someone must do, provide, or achieve to deserve care.

Christy helps clients understand these patterns compassionately. Together, they explore how protective strategies developed, how those strategies appear in current relationships, and what it might mean to respond from a stronger sense of self-trust.

Growth is not always linear. We may encounter similar emotional themes repeatedly, but each encounter can offer an opportunity to meet them with more awareness, choice, and compassion.

Psychedelic Preparation and Integration

Christy has more than five years of experience working with psychedelic therapy, preparation and integration, and plant-medicine experiences.

Psychedelic experiences may bring forward powerful emotions, memories, bodily sensations, spiritual questions, or shifts in a person’s sense of self. They can feel illuminating, destabilizing, beautiful, confusing—or several of these at once.

Christy provides a grounded therapeutic space in which clients can prepare intentionally and thoughtfully process what emerges afterward. Integration helps clients explore how an experience relates to their emotional lives, relationships, values, and choices.

Her background in contemplative and embodied practices allows her to work sensitively with experiences that may be difficult to capture through language alone.

Transcendent Self Therapy does not provide or prescribe psychedelic substances. Christy’s work focuses on legal, clinically appropriate preparation and integration.

Therapy for Spiritual Growth, Meaning, and the End of Life

Christy welcomes clients exploring spirituality, existential questions, and experiences that may not fit neatly into conventional clinical language.

Periods of spiritual growth can feel expansive, but they may also bring uncertainty, disorientation, or changes in identity and relationships. Therapy can offer a grounded place to explore these experiences without dismissing them or deciding in advance what they mean.

Christy also works with clients facing end-of-life concerns. This may include people confronting their own mortality, supporting someone who is dying, grieving, or exploring questions about meaning, fear, love, and what matters most.

She approaches these experiences with presence, openness, and respect for each client’s own worldview.
