Therapy for those who don’t fit into boxes

At Transcendent Self Therapy, we work best with people who feel unseen, stuck, or weighed down by anxiety, depression, or life transitions, as well as those longing to live with greater creativity, joy, and authenticity. Whether you’re grieving a loss, navigating a major change, or searching for deeper meaning, we provide a safe, responsive space where you don’t have to carry it alone.

We believe that real change happens through genuine human connection—and that’s why we emphasize in-person therapy sessions at our offices in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In a world where nearly everything happens through a screen, it’s easy to feel disconnected, and therapy should be the antidote, not an extension of that distance. At the same time, we know flexibility matters, so when coming to the office isn’t possible, we also offer virtual sessions to provide continuity and access. This balance of in-person depth and virtual adaptability allows us to meet you where you are—both literally and emotionally.

We are a private pay practice with a sliding scale and also accept Aetna insurance, because accessibility matters. And with a team of therapists from diverse backgrounds—in therapy styles, cultures, and languages—we can match you with the right person to understand you deeply and walk alongside you on your healing journey.

Why People Come to Us

Life can feel overwhelming when you’re carrying too much alone, or when you’ve had to perform roles that don’t reflect who you really are. You might feel:

  • Trapped in patterns that no longer serve you

  • Hidden behind expectations, “masks,” or roles

  • Disconnected from joy, creativity, or purpose

  • Unsure of who you are or how to move forward

Therapy is a space where you don’t have to perform. You’ll be seen for who you are, and supported in discovering who you want to become.

Who We Are

Transcendent Self Therapy was founded by Dr. Kateri Berasi, a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly 20 years of experience. As founder and director, Dr. Berasi is highly selective in building her team, valuing clinicians who are smart, empathic, creative, and deeply skilled. Our diverse staff brings a wide range of cultural backgrounds, languages, and therapeutic modalities, ensuring each client can find a strong and supportive match. Together, we are united by a commitment to helping people feel seen, understood, and empowered to grow.

Our Approach

We believe therapy should meet the whole person, not just the problem. That’s why we use an integrative model, weaving together talk therapy with other treatment modalities as needed. When it’s helpful to go beyond words, we may incorporate creative and experiential approaches alongside classical psychotherapy.

  • Individual Therapy – One-on-one sessions that provide a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Evidence-based methods such as DBT, IFS, CBT, somatic therapy, art therapy, and psychodynamic approaches help you build insight, resilience, and new coping skills.

  • Couples Therapy – A collaborative space for partners to strengthen communication, resolve conflicts, and deepen connection. We help couples navigate challenges and create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

  • Group Therapy – A space for members to connect around shared struggles and life experiences. Group therapy reduces isolation, fosters empathy, and offers real-time opportunities to practice new ways of relating and expressing yourself.

  • Costume Therapy – An embodied, expressive process using costumes and play to explore hidden parts of self.

  • Psychedelic Integration Work – Supporting clients in processing altered states, life transitions, or new experiences.

Flexible & Accessible

We know life doesn’t always fit neatly into a weekly 45 or 60 minute appointment. That’s why we offer options designed for real-life needs:

  • Concierge Therapy – Priority scheduling, extended sessions, and even home visits for greater convenience.

  • Intensive Treatment Sessions – Longer sessions (90 minutes–4 hours) for deeper work and accelerated healing.

  • Virtual & In-Person Care – Meet us in our Brooklyn office, online, or in agreed-upon settings that feel supportive.

Wherever you are, therapy should feel accessible and tailored to you.

When you sit with one of our therapists at Transcendent Self Therapy in the same room, something profound happens. Eye contact, body language, tone, and subtle emotional shifts become part of the conversation. These small but powerful cues create a sense of being fully met and understood. In-person therapy gives you space to slow down, feel grounded, and experience a depth of connection that is difficult to replicate online. This presence can be transformative—it creates the conditions where authentic self-discovery, healing, and growth can take root.
