Why People Come to Us

Life can feel overwhelming when you’re carrying too much alone, or when you’ve had to perform roles that don’t reflect who you really are. You might feel:

  • Trapped in patterns that no longer serve you

  • Hidden behind expectations, “masks,” or roles

  • Disconnected from joy, creativity, or purpose

  • Unsure of who you are or how to move forward

Therapy is a space where you don’t have to perform. You’ll be seen for who you are, and supported in discovering who you want to become.

Who We Are

Transcendent Self Therapy is a group practice founded by Dr. Kateri Berasi, a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly 20 years of experience. Our diverse team of clinicians brings expertise in individual, couples, and group therapy, as well as integrative, creative, and holistic approaches to care.

What unites us is a shared commitment: to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

Our Approach

We believe therapy should meet the whole person, not just the problem. That’s why we use an integrative model, weaving together talk therapy with other treatment modalities as needed. When it’s helpful to go beyond words, we may incorporate creative and experiential approaches alongside classical psychotherapy.

  • Individual Therapy – One-on-one sessions that provide a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Evidence-based methods such as DBT, IFS, CBT, and psychodynamic approaches help you build insight, resilience, and new coping skills.

  • Couples Therapy – A collaborative space for partners to strengthen communication, resolve conflicts, and deepen connection. We help couples navigate challenges and create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

  • Group Therapy – A space for members to connect around shared struggles and life experiences. Group therapy reduces isolation, fosters empathy, and offers real-time opportunities to practice new ways of relating and expressing yourself.

  • Costume Therapy – An embodied, expressive process using costumes and play to explore hidden parts of self.

  • Somatic Therapy – Connecting mind and body, using awareness of physical sensations, movement, and breath to release stress and process emotions.

  • Art Therapy – Utilizing creative expression such as drawing, painting, or collage, as a pathway to explore emotions, reduce stress, and foster healing and self-discovery.

  • Psychedelic Integration Work – Supporting clients in processing altered states, life transitions, or new experiences.

Flexible & Accessible

We know life doesn’t always fit neatly into a weekly 45 or 60 minute appointment. That’s why we offer options designed for real-life needs:

  • Concierge Therapy – Priority scheduling, extended sessions, and even home visits for greater convenience.

  • Intensive Treatment Sessions – Longer sessions (90 minutes–4 hours) for deeper work and accelerated healing.

  • Virtual & In-Person Care – Meet us in our Brooklyn office, online, or in agreed-upon settings that feel supportive.

Wherever you are, therapy should feel accessible and tailored to you.

What You Can Expect

In working with us, we will help you to:

  • Feel understood, accepted, and affirmed.

  • Explore the roots of your struggles in a safe, supportive environment.

  • Break through patterns that keep you feeling stuck.

  • Reconnect with joy, creativity, and purpose.

  • Build skills and strategies that carry into everyday life.

Therapy here is not one-size-fits-all. We’ll collaborate to find the pace, style, and approaches that best support your growth.
